Charles Forman of Setpixel fame has created Shadow Story, an installation that gets children involved in the creation of the artwork. During workshops, children draw out little sketches and ideas on sheets of paper, those drawings are then instantly put into the installation and their drawings come to life.
There are four basic elements: characters, flowers, particles, and butterflies. Characters run around on the ground. They can be picked up and thrown around. Flowers grow along the ground as a shadow moves along the ground. Without being touched by a shadow, they quickly shrink and disappear. Particles are emitted from the shadow. There are many simple types of particles: star-like emission, water drops, bubbles, smoke, and gravity affected particles.
Although shadow based video installations have been done before, I really like the immediacy of involvement with the child creating the drawings and being able to play with them. Good stuff.
