At the New Designers show I saw this brilliant project, the See-Saw Bench from Kerri Stevens. Her justification about play in our daily lives is something I also am exploring in my recent work…
“Remember as a child playing at the park, challenging each other to see who can swing the highest or bump each other off the see-saw? As we grow older our lives revolve around work and busy schedules and the type of play we once knew becomes a distant memory..until now.
The see saw bench has been designed along with a range of adult play park furniture to allow adults to let go and get back in touch with their inner child and allowing us to interact with one another.
The see-saw bench has been designed by using the traditional park bench and twisting them into a new context. By removing static legs and allowing the bench to move, it is no longer just a bench but also a see “ saw”.
The best thing for me was the plaque on the bench that said:
In loving memory of childhood play, deeply loved and sadly missed by adults of all ages.
