Traces
for Moritz Waldemeyer
Posted November 28th 2005 under Installations
I had the privilege of meeting Kenichi Okada recently, a talented chap studying for his BA at the London College of Communication. Many of his works interest me, so wanted to post them here.
Traces is a video installation created for Platform for Art, a public London Underground art programme. Traces “highlights the beauty of lost moments, caught in contemplation at Liverpool street station”, showing the traces and movements of busy people going about their lives. Here is a video.

With a paper strip painted with pixel data Pixel Factory converts this data through a 7*7 pixel window to create images. By sliding the paper strip over the head of the box, the unrecognisable pixel data becomes an animation. The image on the paper is generated through computer processing, and the image can be taken from text images and video images, recorded real time. Sweet.
