Futuresonic this year is focussed on social technologies, with a two day conference, exhibitions, live music and many other events distrbuted across the city.

The Icon Experiment is a feature at the Grand Design show, a mass of home & interior consumer goods. “Our aim is to produce the antidote to home shows, with a daily schedule of performances, interaction design, animation and special projects”. The works on show range from product to interaction from the likes of Simon Heijdens, Albin Karlsson, Ted Noten, Studio Glithero, Wieki Somers and Wow Inc. RCA students are showing works such the remote control roller skates and ice cream on demand for unhappy people. On the 7th is the Icon Day full of talks and debate.

This is the only festival I can go to this month and am very much looking forward to it. A wide range of presentations from different fields such as interaction, motion graphics and print media, as well as an exhibition, films and lots of live music. This year Takeaway has been slimmed down to a light version. There will be a free RFID workshop ‘Local network for objects and the internet of things’ with Tinker.it and a video conference Q&A with Mark Hansen and Ben Rubin, the creators of the Listening Post followed by a private view.
Phew! Maybe next year they could all be spread out a little more :)
