I have just attended a 3-day workshop for Arduino, a physical computing platform. Day one we were introduced to the platform and examples of work, then we soldered our own boards together (see photo below). Day two had a great presentation from Crispin Jones about his work, then learning how different sensors and actuators work. On day three we could concentrate on what we were most interested in, so I did some experiments with a peizo speaker, creating an led matrix and interfacing with software. Not only did I learn lots, I also met some very interesting artists from London. If you have a workshop coming to a town near you, I highly recommend it.

[...] On sale for the first time at the Ars Electronica Electrolobby workshops, the Arduino mini is a much smaller version of its older brother. Ideal for plugging straight into breadboards & for projects with limited space, the Arduino mini also has twice as much memory for your code. Saving space by using a seprate USB adapter, code can loaded on to the board, then remove the loader to save space. Buy the mini for 25 euros and USB adapter for 15 euros (excluding tax & shipping). I bought mine at the workshop, photo above is size comparison with older Arduino that I made in the previous workshop. [...]
